Herdade do Monte da Ribeira
The first vineyard at Herdade do Monte da Ribeira was planted in 1989 and, at the same time, a winery was built for wine production. The first harvest, in 1992, was sold under the Vidigueira brand. Later, the Pousio and Quatro Caminhos brands were added and, recently, the Marmelar brand. In recent years, the winery has been modernized and, for about 12 years now, the vineyard has been expanded and restructured, currently occupying 43 hectares. The white grape varieties, Alvarinho, Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro and Verdelho, occupy one third of the total area of the vineyard. The red grape varieties present are Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Baga, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Syrah, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira, which occupy the remaining two thirds of the vineyard.
