Mouchão Estate

At the end of the 19th century, John Reynolds acquired a 900-hectare property called Herdade do Mouchão, continuing the cork production business started by his grandfather. The family eventually added wine production to this property. Several vineyards were planted and, in 1901, a traditional winery was built, with thick, white adobe walls and a high ceiling, all topped by a magnificent Portuguese tile roof. It was also on John's initiative that the first plants of the Alicante Bouschet variety were brought from France. Today, there are 38 hectares divided into several plots, the oldest being those where the Alicante Bouschet is found. Visits to this winery are only possible by appointment and subject to the owners' availability.
