Mateus Nicolau de Almeida

Mateus is the fifth generation of the Nicolau de Almeida family to produce wine in the Douro. Together with his wife, Teresa Ameztoy, they work in a winery called Adega do Sável (Alosa alosa), named after the fish that used to travel up the Douro River from the Atlantic Ocean, a reality that is now impossible due to the construction of dams. In the winery, they introduce us to different perspectives and approaches to vineyards and wine, based on organic and biodynamic agriculture.
