The 2022 Crusta Calcária is a pale yellow wine with an intense nose, saline, mineral, with hints of gunpowder and iodine. In the mouth, it has a full, textured attack, with aromas repeated in the retronasal region. Super persistent. Crusta Calcária is a geological area in the north of Porto Santo Island, where the limestone profile is compacted, giving the wines an additional minerality, transporting us to seashells and another dimension of wine.

  • Soil: Traditional low-lying cultivation, close to the ground, protected from strong winds by reed beds or crochet walls. Vines aged between 40 and 80 years.
  • Winemaking: The grapes were harvested manually and vinified for the first time on the island of Porto Santo. The vineyard was carefully selected, with some vines being harvested more than once, with the ripest grapes being picked first and the rest in a second harvest. The grapes were pressed directly into settling tanks, separating three fractions, without any use of SO2 until the end of fermentation, in order to allow pre-oxidation of the must and a fuller spontaneous fermentation.
  • Tasting Notes: Pale yellow color, intense nose, saline, mineral, notes of gunpowder and iodine. In the mouth, full, textured attack, the aromas are repeated in the retronasal. Super persistent.
  • Maturation: The musts fermented on lees in 250L and 500L stainless steel tanks, and in 228-liter barrels, where they remained for a total of 11 months.
