Castelão (syn. Periquita) is a grape variety with low concentration, which has fallen into the background in this era of concentrated reds. Originally from Alentejo (according to the latest studies), it uncomfortably occupies the third largest vineyard area in the region, although in the wines it has been relegated to a secondary or supporting role. The 'old-timers' say that its virtue did not lie in its concentration, but rather in its longevity: "it needs time!". This "Tinto de Castelão" was given time. Time in fermentation (30 days), time in barrels (12 months), time in the bottle (12 months) and... time to be itself: in its more fragile colour, in its elegance and in the persistence of its tannins. The result? A nostalgic smile of something truly from the past. Fragile ruby-garnet colour. Fine aroma, with notes of plum and spices, on tasting the attack is medium-bodied with good freshness. The texture builds in the middle of the tasting, all in elegance, finishing with present and firm tannins.
