Quinta dos Castelares Grande Reserva Tinto is a full-bodied red wine with a 'Freixenista' character from the Douro Superior. Aroma of black fruits, with notes of liquorice, spices, violets, bergamot and rockrose, balanced with very elegant notes from the barrel aging. Very complex and elegant, very mature, with fine, firm but smooth tannins, making this wine long and full of fruity flavor, anticipating excellent potential for aging in the bottle.

  • Soil: The grapes used to make this wine are a field blend of old vines from the highest vines at Quinta dos Castelares, in Freixo de Espada à Cinta, in the Douro Superior, at an altitude of between 500 and 600 metres. The shale soils are terraced and the vineyards face north-east.
  • Winemaking: Manual harvest. Complete destemming followed by crushing. The grapes are fermented by variety and by vineyard plot, with the aim of making the selection that allows for the best final result. Fermentation in small capacity stainless steel vats, at a temperature of 24ºC. Controlled and gentle maceration, with the aim of obtaining concentrated, aromatic and elegant wines.
  • Tasting Notes: This is a full-bodied red wine with a 'Freixenista' character from the Douro Superior. Aroma of black fruits, with notes of liquorice, spices, violets, bergamot and rockrose, in balance with very elegant notes from the barrel aging. Very complex and elegant, very mature, with fine, firm but smooth tannins, making this wine long and full of fruity flavor, anticipating excellent potential for aging in the bottle.
  • Maturation: Aged for 18 months in French (2/3) and American (1/3) oak barrels.
