Azulera Reserva Red 2019
Azulera Reserva Red is a wine with a deep centre and a bluish/purple rim. On the nose it offers exuberance of black fruits with notes of vanilla and spices. On the palate it is dry, full-bodied, powerful in the black fruits and vibrant in the acidity, which makes it very drinkable. The tannin, although present, is quite tamed due to the long aging. The flavours are released in successive layers, with the discreet presence of wood making the whole very appealing. Long and spicy finish. This is Raúl Riba D'Ave's third wine in the Douro. This first edition is made from wines from Muxagata, although the location is never as important as the raw material, the grapes. In fact, a certain number of traditional Douro varieties have a deep 'blue' hue, which lasts throughout the wine's youth. In this case, even after a few years, this wine still shows this hue when analyzed through the rim of the glass. This is quite unusual in most red grape varieties in the world, but very characteristic of some Douro varieties, which are rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols. These elements are reflected not only in the depth of color of this wine, but also in the depth of its aroma and flavor.
