  • Soil: Shale soil. Continental mountainous with hot, dry summers and wet winters.
  • Winemaking: On schist soil, a highly laminated metamorphic rock. Rich in nutrients, this soil also has the useful property of retaining water. The Baixo Corgo is located in the westernmost part of the Serra do Marão, where rainfall and the yield of the vines are highest. The Douro has its own microclimate, which is one of the most important reasons for the quality and style of its wines. The most important geological feature responsible for this is the aforementioned “Marão” mountain range, which protects it from the influence of the Atlantic Ocean, giving it a continental climate with hot, dry summers and wetter winters.
