Maçanita Is it Sousão or Will it be Vinhão? is a wine with an elegant and intense ruby ​​colour, just like Sousão can give us. The aroma is fresh, with a velvety attack, a good mid-palate and a persistent finish. A red grape variety (i.e. with colour in the pulp) from the north of the country - “it is said that it came from the banks of the Lima River” - as Girão wrote in 1822. He also said that it has so much colour that the skins can be used to “make an excellent ink to cover wines lacking colour”, as if describing the current role of Sousão in the Douro. Further north, the same variety with the virile name of Vinhão is drunk raw, extreme, rough and proud, like a bastion of the last signs of rurality. So is this Sousão or Vinhão?
