In this Chão dos Eremitas, at the foot of the Serra d'Ossa, there is evidence of uninterrupted wine production since the 14th century, when the Papal Bull of 1397 exempted the Pauperes Eremiitas (monks of the Order of Saint Paul, "Os Paulistas") from vineyard taxes and reinforced their importance. The discovered Phoenician wine amphora dates further back to the 8th century BC. This place is special, you can feel it! Two streams bring rainwater from the Serra d'Ossa, keeping the ground cool in the scorching Alentejo heat. From the same soil and the same grape varieties, a new, fresh identity emerged in the batches, the "Pequeno Eremita". This "Pequeno Eremita" is a testament to this place and to the grape varieties that once dominated the region's wine landscape but almost disappeared.
