Mouchão Tonel 3-4 is a wine of aristocratic stature, deep and opaque, which combines a muscular and virile facet with the subtlety we recognise in great wines. It is intense and explosive in the mouth, fine and elegant. At the same time, austere. A very complete wine. Mouchão Tonel 3-4, the ultimate example of Herdade do Mouchão reds, was awarded 97 points by the influential North American magazine The Wine Advocate, founded by Robert Parker. This is the second time that Mark Squires, the publication's official critic, has awarded this score to a non-fortified Portuguese wine, and the first among Alentejo wines.

  • Soil: Vinha dos Carapetos, considered the best expression of the unique “terroir” of Herdade do Mouchão.
  • Winemaking: This wine is only made in years of exceptional quality and chosen from the best plots of Alicante Bouschet in the Carapetos vineyard. Crushed by foot and after fermentation in the wine presses, it is aged in two wooden vats numbered 3 and 4 for 24 months.
  • Tasting Notes: Concentrated and fresh, this monolith of black wild fruit with jam, aromatic herbs, dark chocolate, and a light balsamic hint in the background, all still very young but full of energy. It grows in the glass and, as if in layers, the aromas emerge, clean but still very compact. In the mouth, it is an explosion of flavor, a colossus that immediately conquers the entire palate, broad and deep, with the very juicy fruit dominating and making the party last. The finish asks for calm, begging us to let it evolve for a few more years, as it still has a lot to grow in the bottle.
  • Maturation: Aged for 24 months in Portuguese oak, macacauba and mahogany. After being reassessed and its quality confirmed again, the wine is bottled and rests for 24 to 36 months in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Serve: Between 16ºC and 18ºC
  • Winemaker: Iain Richardson and Hamilton Reis
  • Conservation: Like Mouchão, Tonel 3-4 can be stored for a long time, and will best be appreciated in its splendor 15 to 20 years after harvest, although it can reach its peak much later than that.
  • Food Pairing: Ideal with red meat and strong cheeses.
  • Bottle Size: 75cl
  • Allergens: Contains sulfites
