Monte Bluna Reserva Rosé has a deep pink colour. The aroma is very distinctive, guided by quality and remarkable richness of multiple dimensions. It presents fresh red fruits, delicate floral notes and spicy hints. The wood is well integrated and provides complexity, all set against a background of limestone that lingers in the memory. In the mouth it is elegant, exquisitely balanced between the generosity of the body, full of substance and vibrant freshness. The finish is admirable in its length and enveloping.

  • Soil: The uniqueness and excellence of Monte Bluna wines are a consequence of the peculiarity and unique qualities of its terroir. Monte Bluna’s vineyards are located in Lisbon, Arruda dos Vinhos, on a pristine hillside located in the basin of the Rio Grande da Pipa, which is part of the basin of the River Tejo. The vineyards are located at high altitude, on slopes of varying steepness, flanked by the river to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Montejunto mountain range to the north, on clay-limestone and limestone soils. Although they are over 300 metres high, marine fossils can still be found in these soils, which mix with the dense native shrub vegetation that coexists with the vineyards. Monte Bluna’s vineyards are located in three distinct geological formations: the Abadia Formation, the Coralic Formation of Amaral and the Sobral Formation, geological units of a sedimentary nature that date back 157 Ma, from the Jurassic period, from the lower and middle Kimeridgian to the Tithonian. The soils are calcareous Cambiosols, which means that they result from the alteration of a rocky substrate characterized by the predominance of carbonate formations, and therefore their composition is rich in calcium. The vineyards are located on moderately sloping, sunny slopes, with diverse exposures (S, NW and W), but always windy (predominant NW winds). They have a NW-SSE orientation and are trained in bilateral cordon. The climate is warm Mediterranean with moderate drought, although characterized by the specificity of the location, strongly marked by altitude, temperature range, proximity to the Atlantic and rivers, orogeny, relief and also by the prevailing northerly winds that are felt all year round. Monte Bluna's viticulture is based on the principles of Sustainable Agriculture (Integrated Production), does not use herbicides and has balance and the ecosystem as its fundamental pillars. It aims to capitalize on and invest in the national and regional agricultural heritage, ensuring its sustainability, preservation, diversity and perpetuation.
  • Winemaking: Blended wine made from the Aragonez and Tinta Miúda grape varieties. The Aragonez and Tinta Miúda grapes were hand-picked and sorted into small 20 kg boxes. At the winery, the grapes were hand-sorted again and then destemmed. The grapes were crushed (passively) before being transported to the press, where they underwent a short maceration and soft pressing. They were fermented together at room temperature. The aging regime was reversed, with the grapes first aged for 5 months in stainless steel and then for 4 months in used 225 L French oak barrels from the Allier forest, with several low-intensity toasting regimes. They were aged in these same barrels until bottling on June 8, 2022, and will be released for sale in 2023. To preserve its quality, the Monte Bluna Reserva Rosé 2021 was bottled without treatment, which could have led to the formation of a natural deposit.
